Legends - Moorland
“This controversial course is definitely a ‘target’ golf course. Created in the Dye tradition, Moorland will cause golfers to rise to incredible heights on the sculpted terrain, sink to considerable depths in the bunkers, and constantly use every ounce of skill and luck in their possession. Moorland indeed earned its designation as one of the "Top 10 New Courses of 1990," by Golf Digest. Play the 245 yard par-4 16th and see for yourself why the large bunker guarding the green is so appropriately named ‘Hell's Half Acre.’”
RAGA take: A sandy waste area and wide open tee shot greets the golfer off the first hole, a sign of what is to come. The lack of tree lined fairways allows the golfer to find tee shots that have gone awry but a some may have been better left lost, as certain lies on Moorland are greater than a one-shot penalty of a drop. Short holes lull a golfer into complacency only to be filled with panic upon finding their shot landing into a pot bunker, a vast flat sandy sprawl, or strategically placed water hazard. Enjoy its beauty, bask in its splendor, but respect its challenge.
