2017 Griswold Open
Welcome to the inaugural Griswold Open! This 1st annual match play competition pits Rick and Steve against Todd and Mike on the frozen tundra of Providence Golf Club. Just as crazy as the tournament’s namesake, these golfers look to bare the elements in an effort to capture the Moose Cup trophy and bragging rites during the long winter break.
The best-ball format can put the pressure on partners and it is crucial not to freeze up. Both teams looked to warm-up out of the gates but a pair of bogey’s gave no team the edge. However, the frigid temps got colder for Rick and Steve after going bogey-bogey to Todd and Mike’s par-par and up 2 after 3. A series of pars kept it that way until Todd and Mike slipped-up with a bogey on 8, giving one back to Rick and Steve. However, they gained it back when Rick and Steve hit a snowbank on the long par-3 9th and found themselves down 2 going into the back 9.
Mike and Todd continued to skate with pars on the back while Rick and Steve tried to draft in their wake. Another face plant on 14 put Mike and Todd up 3 with 4 to go. With their backsides on the ice, Rick and Steve finally warmed up. After a pair of pars on 15, and 3 down with 3 to go, needing to win each of the final 3 holes to tie, Rick and Steve took 16, and 18, but their par was matched on 17 giving Mike and Todd a 2&1 victory and the Moose Cup in the 1st annual Griswold Open!
